wedge run 10k

Many many hours of planning over beers at Wedge, coffee at Summit, and long runs at Bent led to the first edition of the Wedge Run 10k on Saturday, May 5th, 2018.

The creation of competitive racing opportunities for runners in Western NC has always been a part of the club's mission. One way of accomplishing this goal has been to increase the competitiveness of local events with club rivalries and deep fields. Another has been to host our own events, which up to this point has been limited to low-key and informal affairs, such as the Western NC Pop-Up Mile.

Recently, we've looked at trying to go legit and host something larger and more official. Permitting issues foiled plans for a fall cross country criterium (maybe next year?), so the club pivoted to plans for a spring road race. As luck would have it, our friends at Wedge Brewing were interested in collaborating on an event in 2018 to celebrate their tenth year. A road race following the course of our weekly Wedge Run was a perfect fit.
